New Years and 40th Post...

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

The LORD make His face shine upon thee,

and be gracious to thee:

The LORD lift up His countenance upon thee,

and give thee peace.

Numbers 6:24-26

God be with you all in our Lord Jesus Christ!

French Bread

my french bread

This is my mama's best french bread recipe...I've made it several times, and we call it "the tablespoon bread recipe".
French Bread
1 heaping T. butter, 1 heaping T. sugar,
1 heaping T. salt, 1 T. dry yeast,
2 & 2/3 c. hot water
Combine, then stir in flour (about 6 & 1/2 cups) to make dough. Kneed for 8 minutes on floured surface. Let rise one hour, then shape into loaves. Let rise again, then bake at 350 until lightly browned on the underside. For something a little different, I like to braid a loaf just for fun. This recipe slices up very well and is lovely with any meal. Enjoy!

Snow Storm

Tonight we are supposed to get some ice, snow, and then later on this week subzero temps with highs below 15 degrees. Yikes.
Global warming, anyone?
Where's Al Gore when you need him???

Now for some happy news:
We have clean clothes, and a washing machine that works! The repairman called at 6:50 Tuesday morning to arrange a time come take a look at the washer. At 9 or so Lazer Wolf from Fiddler on the Roof came knocking at the door. He went down to the basement to inspect. I was overjoyed when Lazer Wolf came back up to inform us that our washer was fixed! Thank you, Jesus!

I've heard about this sermon before, and have heard clips of it, but this is one of the best sermons I've heard in a long time. Not your typical sermon on ten steps to have a happier life or better success in your business.
There have been things in my life that have happened to me that I've had no control over, experiences where I needed real answers. When I looked to American "Christianity" I found none.
Why?
Because God has the answers, not American "Christianity".

Laundry and a sick little one....

Well when it rains it pours.
Dad is gone this weekend, and we miss him!
Unfortunately Tornado woke up with what appears to be a virus, and it's always a sad feeling to see one of the little ones feeling under the weather. Hopefully he will be better soon, and back to his active self. But in the meantime it's beef and noodles and listening to "The House At Pooh Corner" on tape.
Lovely book.
Right now I'm not in a very good mood.
Today is the two week anniversary of our washing machine being broken. Trying to make do in a family of six with no washing machine is getting irritating since Dad is the only one who can go to the laundromat. It seems like we've had 10 times more spills than on the average week.

We called the landlord the Monday after Thanksgiving (the washing machine just HAD to give out on Thanksgiving day) and we were told that they would handle it and send a repair man over A.S.A.P.

Finally yesterday we get the bumbling repair guy we always get, and he spends a long time downstairs and comes up scratching his head and leaves.

Then we get a call saying that we won't be getting a service call till next week.

Great.
Let's go count quarters for Dad's next laundromat
run....when he comes home...
"WWWAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!"

The things I find in the cupboards....

Along with the raisins and crackers,
stealthy soldiers crouch and watch...
Maybe they were hungry?

Thanksgiving

Ours was a very happy Thanksgiving! This is not a very poignant post being that it is well into December, but I thought I would post pictures anyways! We had so much to be thankful for, and this Thanksgiving was definitely a memorable one.

The day before Thanksgiving Mama did some baking and cooking. We made our first homemade cranberry sauce this year, and it was delicious!

I love the color of cranberries!

Doesn't everyone serve green bean casserole at Thanksgiving???

The Aftermath
I hope you and your families had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
What is your favorite dish that your family served this year?
